Gruesome Knitted Eyeballs for Halloween

At our house we like to offer these on a plate. I offer you a free pattern!

For a shiny new PDF version of the pattern please visit me at:

MaryJaneMucklestone.com and click on "Free Stuff"!

If you would like a visual aid, please visit my Knitted Olive Tutorial. It is made much the same way.

As it turns out there are quite a few knitted eyeballs rolling around the planet:
insubordiknit has beautiful multiple felted ones nestled in a mass of bloody guts, softly felted bloody guts.
kitkatknit has a beautiful shot of knit-art "sushi with eyeballs" scrumtious!
domiknitrix has a great all-purpose Large (22") eyeball with a downlaodable pattern.
Knitzelmade a nice one for a Doctor's office, with correctly placed muscles!
Shari suggested filling them with catnip, for catnip eyeballs! Brilliant!
BlondeAmbitionKnits has a nice veiny one.
Please comment if you eyeball any more!

I want some! Does that justify going out and buying more yarn?

oh my gosh, these are soooo cool! What a great surprise! They made me laugh and laugh just thinking about your trick or treaters seeing them for the first time on the plate when they come to your door! I wonder if mine will be as pretty as yours?! They are way too awesome, thanks so much for sharing and making me laugh!

What a great idea for a rainy day like today!!

ps- Sophia S , I have always been fond of the 'pregnant nun' Halloween costume.. BEWARE, I ended up pregnant shortly after wearing the costume!

Thanks for all the nice comments! I strung a few eyeballs on a quick knitted headband, for a Knitted Eyeball Tiara. Spooktacular for the un-costumey costume!

These are just so fun. I, of course, would add a few bloodshot veins with embroidery. Happy Halloween!

Great pattern! Thanks for posting it -- the possibilities are endless!

I love Kristin's suggestion of adding embroidered bloodshot veins. Extra gross! :)

Oh man! Those are great, and make me feel less weird (http://knitzel.blogspot.com/2007/06/eyes-on-prize.html) A friend emailed me a link to your blog, and now I see there are plenty of eyeball knittin' sisters out there. Nice job!

I swear I want to fill mason jars with these for Christmas and tie a gingham bow on them. So very Wednesday Addams!

I love this pattern. I have been knitting eyeballs for days now. I did find some errors in the instructions however.

I believe Rnd 4 should be: inc 1, K1, inc1 on each needle. This makes 15 stitches around.

Rnd 7 ends with 21 stitches, not 27

Rnd 11 should be K1, K2tog, K4 on each needle.

Please let me know if I am wrong and I am the one reading your pattern wrong.

thanks so much. Everyone is loving the eyeballs I'm knitting.

thanks jammy dodger, I guess I better knit me an eyeball when I get home. I thought I'd been a good tech editor, but perhaps not!

I made these with glow in the dark yarn and everyone loved them! Super fun without the cavities. I love the Airstream as well.

Thanks! This was a great boredom buster tonight while I sit watching the snow. I'm Savagerabbit on Ravelry.

Hello!
Made a pair 2 weeks ago for my friend's cats. I added an i-cord as optic nerves, and they've been a huge success.
I just adore this pattern. :)
