Nederland Opera Mitts
A secret revealed! I always intended my Nederland Vest to have matching armbands. For years I've been inspired by the knitted armbands found in Cynthia Gravelle LeCount’s book, Andean Folk Knitting: Traditions and Techniques from Peru and Bolivia, 1990, that men make for themselves, wildly intricate and stunningly beautiful. The armband here translated and simplified to harmonize with the Nederland Vest, proves to be a useful accessory in today's world of fluctuating temperatures.
The Nederland Opera Mitts are featured in this weeks Classic Elite's newsletter, follow the link to download the free pattern.
Many thanks to my gracious model, Russian Literature student Laura, who works next door to my office and makes a mean Caramel Latte. All the girls at Sage Market, in Camden Maine, can vouch for the usefulness of opera length mitts

do they wear them there at work? ;)
I like the idea of them, esp with all of these 3/4 lengths sweaters that are coming out. Good for transitioning from one season to another!
ah! they are so pretty!
Oh I love those!
I was thinking of making some just the other day...
I'm tempted, I'm tempted!
Thanks all, the girls at Sage aren't knitters, but they've waxed poetic about why the mitts are so sensible. I should get them to guest post, their arguments are so convincing! They've got to learn to knit! I definitely should make Laura a pair, in return for her lovely visage living here in cyberspace, and traveling thru the ether in the CEY newsletter.
love love love. You know how some knitters are 'sock knitters' , well I'm a 'mitten knitter' --always excited to star another pair and I love these.
I recently finished Jared Floods mittens on the cover of Vogue, they were super fun. Victoria (@Unique One) is making another pair out of Shi Bo from the same magazine, I think I'll make those too.
gorgeous! and useful for Canadian fall/winters too!
Hey, I've just been making some opera mitts myself! Knit and crochet, nothing so fancy as yours--which are absolutely gorgeous.
